"Now that we have approximately 24 months of data to compare, it is evident that Corona Solutions predicted workload very accurately..."
—Mr. Jim Dillon, Management Analyst - Corona (CA) Police Department
"The City of Corona, with a population of 153,000 and 40 square miles, is located in Southern California in the north-west portion of Riverside County. It is adjacent to Orange County, the City of Anaheim to the west, the City of Riverside to the east and with Interstates 15 and 91 traversing the City.
Due to the economy, the Police Department has experienced down-sizing over the last couple of years. The patrol areas previously were of 5 beats [Zones], but due to the decrease in personnel we found it necessary to decrease the patrol beats to 4.
The direction was to maintain a balance of workload [calls for service], conform to geographic considerations [with freeways affecting boundaries] and maintain emergency response times in the 5-minutes or less range.
We used Corona Solutions' Discover and Deploy to redraw beats, predict the workload and response times and adjust borders to equalize factors as much as possible. It was desired that there be two beats on the north-side of the city and two beats on the south-side of the city with workload balanced as much as possible between the two beats in the same areas of the city.
Now that we have approximately 24 months of data to compare, it is evident that Corona Solutions predicted workload very accurately. Out of the roughly 18,000 calls for service in each north-side beat, they were less than 1 call-per-day on average different in 2012. The two south-side beats were on average 1.6 calls-per-day in difference with each beat averaging 15,000 calls. All beats maintained a 5-minute or less emergency response time. Corona Solutions made what would have been a difficult or time consuming job into one that was able to use real data in an easy to use interface and do so successfully."
